HINTON'S BIO:

The history of Hinton's starts with Dwight Hinton who partnered originally with a man named Lawrence Reed in a Texaco gas station. After Dwight returned from the war both men were approached and asked if they had interest in selling cars for Oldsmobile. With his partner reluctant to do so, they split up their partnership and Dwight Hinton began selling the Oldsmobile line out of his Texaco gas station in downtown Lynden.

Dwight eventually moved into the downtown Ford dealership's building (after they began a new building on the west side of town,) and sold cars from this new location for some time acquiring the Chevrolet franchise in 1961.

Having sold both the Oldsmobile and Chevrolet car lines for some time, Mr. Hinton was offered and awarded both the Pontiac and Buick franchise lines as well in the early 1980's when the dealership was moved into their new building and current location on the Guide Meridian.

Dwight, and his son Mark Hinton worked in the family business and later acquired the Nissan franchise a bit later on, selling their current vehicle lines along with the Nissan vehicle lines for approximately 10 years before letting the Nissan franchise go and concentrated their efforts into the Chevrolet, Olds, Buick, and Pontiac GM vehicle lines. The dealership continues on today with the very Chevrolet and Buick lines that Dwight acquired, and that his son Mark continued selling in the family owned and operated business.

With General Motors closing down the Pontiac and Oldsmobile franchises Hintons continues that "Tradition of Trust since 1947" with continued business within the Lynden and Whatcom community. They are the only locally owned and operated General Motors dealership in Whatcom County and now under the leadership of Mark's long term partner Steve Joostens.

The history of the dealership and its principles in business continue on today.
